Court information

You will be required to pass through an airport-style security checkpoint before entering the court building. Prohibited items will be confiscated, including but not limited to:

    • Knives (pocket or other)
    • Metal cutlery
    • Metal nail files
    • Scissors
    • Knitting needles
    • Glass and ceramic containers
    • Any sharp items
  • Jury service is generally longer than one day. Please ensure you have 7-10 business days available from your summons date.
  • Hours of attendance are generally between 9:30am and 4:30pm on the first day and 10am to 4:30pm on subsequent days (if required). However, these times are subject to change, which will be advised via email and, if activated, SMS notifications.
  • Upon arriving at the Ballarat Law Courts, please proceed up the stairs to Level 1, where you will find the Jury Pool Room on your right.
  • Please present your summons and photo ID when you are checking in for jury service.
  • Once checked in, you will be unable to leave the court building except at lunch time.
  • Lunch is not provided. You may either bring your lunch with you or buy something during the lunch break. Please note, cutlery and glass containers will not be allowed past the security checkpoint at the court entrance.
  • Wear neat, smart-casual clothing in keeping with the court environment. This includes closed-toe shoes.

Transport

  • There is no dedicated juror parking at the court.
  • All-day parking near the court building can be found at the following locations:
      • Grenville Street
      • Anderson Street West
      • Eastwood Street, on the roof of the Ballarat Central Woolworths store
  • Parking fees or fines will not be reimbursed by the courts.
  • If selected as a juror on a trial, you will be provided with a parking permit.
  • Accessibility

    The court building offers wheelchair access. Access to courtrooms will be arranged on the day of attendance. Please advise the court the day prior to your attendance if you require wheelchair access.
